Vintage 70's India Hand Block Printed Silk Dress with Bishop Flounce Sleeves
Date: Late 1960's - 1970's
Size estimate: Size XS, see measurements. The chest area is the tightest part of this garment.
Color: A pink toned orange background with blue& white accents
Fabric: 100% Silk outer, fully lined with 100% silk
Label: Missing, I'm willing to bet this is a Treacy Lowe dress or a similar designer. It's very high quality.
Features: This gorgeous silk dress features a geometric pattern in a striking orange and blue color scheme. This fabric was block printed by hand, likely in India like other similar dresses of this period.
The most unique aspect of this dress, which I've never seen before, are the sleeves. The sleeve is shaped so that there is a voluminous bishop sleeve, followed by an asymmetrical flounce sleeve cuff. The lining of the sleeve holds the shape of the bishop sleeve so it isn't reliant on the cuff to have volume.
I think there was inspiration drawn from antique Chinese garments for this design, the wave pattern at the borders and the sleeve cuff shapes remind me a bit of 19th century Chinese court robes.
This dress has a zipper in the back and the dress is about knee length.
Condition: In excellent vintage condition, no holes, stains or odors. From the inside of the dress it looks like it was professionally altered to adjust the fit of the chest and waist a little for the original owner. This has no effect on the exterior or wearability of the dress. There was also a little wear to the fabric at the top of the collar so I've added some tiny stitches to increase it's durability.

Bust: up to 34 inches
Waist: 29 inches, I think this dress would look nice cinched with a belt if need be.

Shoulder to Shoulder Seam: 15 inches
